Do you ever get fed up with dwelling on all the bad aspects of your health? Ever fancy hearing some good news? That’s exactly how I was feeling yesterday as I ambled past some health-related stalls that had been set up in the city. A lady leapt out in front of us to offer a ‘free medical’. “No, thanks,” I immediately replied – I know my health is in tatters, what would be the point? But, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that a quick ‘medical’ wouldn’t be such a bad idea. MS aside, perhaps I’m actually a really fit and healthy person, and wouldn’t it be fantastic to hear someone tell me just that?!
So, I plonked myself willingly down on the stall, signed a quick form to consent to the tests, which included the drawing of blood. Fine – let’s do this. At no point did I mention any pre-existing health issues – I wanted to be nice and healthy for a change and I find that it’s always fun to pretend that’s the case. My height was checked, my weight was checked, my BMI was calculated – ‘Normal’, albeit on the low side of normal, but ‘normal’ nonetheless. Do you know how long it has been since someone said I was ‘normal’? I was loving this!
Next up – a prick to my little finger, the drops of blood revealing again that my glucose levels were ‘normal’ (win) and my cholesterol was within a ‘healthy’ range (win win). Patting me on the back I was sent away with “a clean bill of health”. I could have skipped all the way home had it not been for those pesky wobbles that have a habit of getting in the way.
Always great to have something positive to celebrate. Cue wine and chocolate!

I did the same thing two years ago. I said yes to a free health check at work and a part from my bmi being slightly overweight I was ‘normal’ in everything else. I still hold onto that fact when my crohns is playing up or my MS is making me wobbly and tired

Glad you got good results from the screening, never mind the pesky MS 🙂

I hear you, A friend said of one of my videos that I ‘look totally normal’. It’s so weird that after a life of avoiding such a thing, its now a nice thing to hear.
Cause it means “the rest of your health is in order” – which helps us MS sufferers enormously.

MS so often just overwhelms all other health issues – even a cold affects us out of all proportion ! I always find it hard to fill out those questionnaires that ask if you’re generally healthy or well – of course apart from this MS. I’m not ill, just not working right!
